Submiting map locations
Often the maps are as good as the information plotted onto them. Whether an Onsen, trail head, Hotel, or a gaping hole that threatened to eat you alive, if you have a location please send it my way. Of all the emails I could get this has to be one of my favorites
From the google map:
Conveniently located underneath every map (go to a mountain page, look directly under the map) there is the Geolocation of the center of the map. If you just zoom, the center of the map remains the same, the Geolocation stays the same. If you pan the map, the Geolocation changes as the center of the map changes.
Zoom as close as you can to your desired location. Double-click it. This will center the map on your double-clicked selection. Now simply copy the geo location number and send it to me with a short explanation. As soon as I get a chance I’ll add it to the overlay.
You could use the above technique to get plots for your GPS.
From the Japanese topo map:
Google maps are convenient but they lack the level of detail you may need to find a feature in the map. By default, when you click on the Japanese topo maps, a window pops up with the location. It should look something like this:
北緯36度34分6秒,東経137度34分38秒
If you don't have Japanese language support, the characters may be grabled but the numbers should be good. Send me that line with a brief explanation and I'll add it to the overlay as soon as I can.
